14 Travel Movies for Quarantine
We’re all stuck inside and there is so much Netflix to go around. Ordinarily, I watch these movies to get inspired or motivated to travel. These days, I re-watch these movies to cure my travel woes. I had a trip to Morocco planned for a few weeks ago, but the world had different plans. Until we can all escape to our next vacations, pop the popcorn and curl up with your favorite travel souvenir.
Here are 14 films that I love to watch when I’m feeling travel. They are in no particular order. I can’t rank things like this, because they are all great in different ways. Let’s roll right into it.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Who among us doesn’t day dream about being our own hero? Walter Mitty is a delightful man who finds himself in the middle of an epic adventure that takes him to the scenic Greenland and gorgeous Iceland.

The Last Holiday
Queen Latifah brings it in this movie set in the stunning Czech Republic. Snow capped mountains may as well be top billed in this film. They will have you ready to learn to snowboard in no time!

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
A younger selection, but effective nonetheless. This movie is about four young friends who share a pair of jeans that somehow always fit perfectly. These girls travel quite a bit and have some beautiful countryside.
French Kiss
A timeless romance story, a young woman’s husband goes on an extended work trip and falls in love with another woman; his wife’s exact opposite. The wife pursues her husband, but meets an unlikely partner along the way who helps her win back her husband’s attention. This film has gorgeous views of the French countryside and always makes me want to buy property in France.

Mamma Mia
Much like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, this film will show you a new side of Greece. Intertwined with the musical numbers are breathtaking views of the Greek Islands just begging for you to come take a swim.

Chasing Liberty
Another adolescent selection, this film is one of the main inspirations I had to backpack Europe. The main character traipses her way from Prague to Berlin, of course falling into shenanigans along the way.

Whitout a Paddle
Every time I watch this, I want to book a flight to Oregon and disappear for two weeks into Mother Nature. Something about the wide shots and the massive skyline combined with the camaraderie for the main characters makes this adventure worth re-watching time and time again.

Lord of the Rings
Any good nerd would know these films would be on the list. Peter Jackson’s ability to see not only the action of the scene, but the beauty that New Zealand lent to the realism of these films. Watching any of the LOTR’s will get you ready to hop a plane to the Kiwi country.

What a Girl Wants
Another youthful film that is a delightful coming of age story that takes place in London, England. She, of course, meets a local boy. Something about the cliche routine of these two experiencing young love makes you ready to get on a double decker bus.

EuroTrip
This movie is a classic for my generation. There are so many quotable moments in this movie and it practically spans the continent. Misadventures and shenanigans, of course, ensue and it is a non-stop laughter fest for me. I re-watch this movie almost every time I fly to Europe.

Letters to Juliet
Another romance film, but this one takes place in Italy. Once of the main reasons I wanted to visit Verona was because of this film. There is a fair amount of Italian countryside driving to take in the scenery as well.

The Bucket List
Very few movies make me wish I were independently wealthy as much as this one. This film is about two older gentlemen who decide to eliminate things from their bucket list. The imagery in this film is amazing and will make you want to climb Mount Everest for yourself.

Holiday in the Wild
This RomCom will make you want to pick up and go to Africa. It takes place at an elephant sanctuary in Zambia and I have to say that watching this had me searching for other Eco-Tourism opportunities. This movie made me want to save the Sea Turtles. See what passion is wakes up in you.

Wild Oats
This movie stars Shirley Maclaine & Jessica Lange and will inspire you to fall in love with the Canary Islands before you’ve ever set foot there! This movie also made me kind of want to be a teacher.

If movies aren’t good enough, try rearranging your house for the third time. You can even order digital prints from my new Etsy shop from my adventures all over the world. What are YOUR favorite travel movies? What should I watch, too? Do you think I’m way off base on some of these, or all of these? Let me know what you think in the comments. Remember to stay safe, stretch, wash your hands, and until next time.
